SL EVENTS OF THE WEEK, 5/10-5/14

Fuf_location

Plant a virtual tree in Second Life, and help a real tree take root in San Francisco.  This Saturday, Friends of the Urban Forest and Linden Lab launch an excellent non-profit, virtual-to-real life collaboration that will spread greenery across two worlds.  Details on this and several Thursday arts and culture events after the jump.

All times in SLT, i.e. Pacific Standard:

Thursday, May 11

1:00PM - 2:00PM:  Talking Ethics: Philosophy Round Table.  Selarus Partridge welcomes guests to the Villa Bilbao Art "to talk about the role of ethics in our community. We'll have an ethical dilemma to discuss and the conversation will flow freely from there. We welcome any and all who are interested. Free Socratic questioning included!"

7:00PM - 8:30PM: Artist Showcase with Nethermind Bliss! Micala Lumiere hosts the fashion maven's weekly gala celebrating a previously unknown artist.

6:00PM - 8:00PM:  Frogg, Jaycat & Jeff Live at Bali Hai!  Renowned SL performers Frogg Marlowe and Jaycatt Nico join cowboy Jeff for an evening of live music.  Also features a mechanical bullriding contest.  [I love it: a virtual simulation of a real world simulation! - HA]

Saturday, May 13

6:00PM - 9:00PM: Friends of the Urban Forest Launch Party.  Jeska Linden hosts a unique Linden Lab collaboration with the reputed non-profit-- purchase a virtual tree in Second Life, and the Linden Dollars are donated to the group, so the L$ can be converted into US$ and help finance the planting of trees in San Francisco.  More details from Jeska here.  Direct portal to the FUF site in Siona here.

Update: Robbie Dingo co-creator (with Dave Dingo) of SL's FUF tree, pictured above.  The Dingo brothers' tree is actually a form of artificial virtual life, growing when watered and exposed to sunlight, reaching full maturity after 30 days of attention.  The Dingo brothers prototyped their artificial plant life technology, it's worth noting, with a very unique genus of plant life.
