Rik Riel's weekly round-up of upcoming SL events
On
Sunday October 29, Doc Boffin, Ospey Therian and friends invite you for
some "spirited" Halloween swordplay as they launch their new "Horror
Expansion Pack" to their popular Combat Cards series. The Combat Cards Hallowe'en Horror Expansion Launch Party will take place from 10AM-2PM SLT in the Spangle fighting arena. Combat Cards
is a turn-based game of dueling warriors in which players buy, sell and
trade cards to provide different combinations of fighting moves that
you can use to turn your opponent into lunchmeat. If you show up as a
zombie or vampire, you might end up being featured on the new card set.
Mmmmm, braiiiinnnnsssss. At Spangle (163, 181, 30).
Also
coming up: open source developers unite, the Center for Disease Control
drops some health knowledge, sumo wrestlers clash, cities are built,
and yet another Second Life news service debuts. All that and much
more after the jump...
(All times in SLT, "Second Life Time"-- i.e., Pacific Standard)

Plone Conference Broadcast In-World
Every year the annual Plone Conference gathers hundreds of developers and supporters of the Plone
open-source content management system for a weekend of coding and
conversation. For Plone enthusiasts who can't make it to the real
world conference in Seattle, Tao Takashi has organized a cool in-world
space to gather and watch some of the proceedings being video
broadcast. Go to the Plone website for more info.

And on the Horizon... Machinima Fest in Second Life Nov 2 and 4
I'm helping organize a couple of Second Life events held in conjunction with the fourth annual Machinima Festival
from November 4-5 in New York City. First on November 2 there'll be a
pre-screening of several nominated machinima with the machinima artists
in attendance. Then on November 4 the real life awards ceremony will
be rebroadcast in-world from the Laguna Beach sim. More details at festival.machinima.org and rikomatic.com.
