Second Life Events: Rik's Picks for October 25-28
Rik Riel's weekly round-up of upcoming SL events...
Governments around the world (including Sweden, Morocco and Mexico) have been increasingly turning to Second Life as a new means of encouraging tourism, investment and cultural awareness.
From October 26-28, the cultural traditions of the emerald isle will be on display at the Discover Ireland Festival. Sponsored by Tourism Ireland, the festival is the first in a series of in-world events held on the Dublin sim (click here to teleport) to promote tourism in real world Ireland. The festival will include five bands and seven DJs, a fashion show, photographic exhibitions of Irish landscapes, and promotional videos about Ireland. Failte!
Meanwhile, the US State Department is sponsoring a jazz festival on Friday October 26 called the "Virtual Vibe Jazz Fest" that will feature several SL jazz musicians as well as a panel discussion on the role of jazz in promoting American values around the world. That's this Friday starting at 6AM at Ilha de Intercambio Island (click here to teleport).
Also Coming Up This Week: an Italian film fest, authentic Greek music and dance, a contest to submit your worst machinima, Lunar techno, the World Bank means business, terraforming the Feng Shui way, and a benefit for a rare genetic disorder. All that and oodles more cool happenings after the jump...
