Second Life Events: Rik's Picks for Nov. 30 - December 2

Rik Riel's weekly round-up of upcoming SL events...

HIV/AIDS has affected so many people around the world in deep and personal ways, and the race for a cure continues. December 1st is World AIDS Day, and there are a number of events happening in Second Life drawing attention to the disease and efforts to stop its spread. Notably, HealthInfo Island (click here to teleport) is sponsoring a number of activities starting at 9AM PST, including:

• A Workshop on "Looking for Health: Finding Quality HIV/AIDS Information by Carolina Keat"
• Special displays and newsfeeds on HIV/AIDS
• An AIDS Walk with information about HIV/AIDS Support Groups in SL
• Podcasts on AIDS by the Center for Disease Control in the Podcast Globe
• A guided tour around the Island
• Live coverage of a parallel Teen Grid event

In addition, DenmarkCopenhagen sim (click here to teleport) is hosting a fundraiser party from 2PM PST to raise money for the World AIDS Foundation. Meanwhile, the Nyumba Rafiki Community Center (click here to teleport) is holding a discussion about HIV/AIDS and dance party starting at 10AM.

12PM - Simulcast of Trans Musicales Music Festival

6PM - Auditions for Production of "A Christmas Carol"
Virtual actors are invited to an open voice audition for various roles in Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol". 7PM - Beginner Chinese Class

1AM - Avatars Needed for Machinima Shoot
Residents are invited to participate as extras in "Avatars Going to Work", an animated short by Ti Mosienko and Andrew Oleksiuk. This animated short will be used to promote I Am Columbia sim of the Interactive Arts and Media Department at Columbia College Chicago and Manifest SL 2008. 2PM - Art Slife Festival Closes with Artist Gracie Kendal

7PM - Animation Creation Class

9AM - Discussion about Bali Conference on Climate Change
The Bali international conference on climate change will begin on December 8. Two experienced activists, Petersan Slade of UK and Soso Gao of France, will discuss the environment in which the Bali conference takes place, the positions of various countries, and some of the possible outcomes. 1-3PM - Sophrosyne's Saturday Salon on The Future of SL Music
SL musician Grace McDunnough will lead a discussion of music and multimedia, then perform a live concert of her own alternative/soul/blues hits. Grace is the creator of Musimmersion, an SL scripting system allowing performers to create custom-made 3D environments morphing to match every song in a set. 2:30PM - The Divas Fashion Extravaganza

Opening of Exhibit by British Artist So Dench

Upcoming:
The RIDEBUILDERS CHALLENGE takes place on December 7th @ Kula amphitheatre and vehicle builders are welcome to get in their entries to Car Market thru 12/5 (extended!). I'm hosting with a great group of inworld celebrity judges to award $L50000 in prizes to the best auto builders. I heard it's also honorary "Dance on Your Car" day no matter where you are, so get on those soft dancing shoes, no scratching in Second Life.

We're dancing with horses at AMO the following weekend....where's a green fairy to go for good holiday dancing shoes?
