Second Life Facebook Application Adds Cross-Network Messaging System

Receiving_mms_im

Here's one of the latest innovations on Second Life Link, a popular Facebook application for Residents.  (Almost a third of my friends on the social network use it.)  When logged into Facebook, you can message one of your Resident friends who's on the Link-- and have it sent directly into Second Life.  In the above composite screenshot, I'm contacting famed fashionista Mistress Midnight via SL Link on Facebook-- "Did you get this message in SL?"-- and her cogent reply, "OMG i did and it was pretty scary!", is in turn sent to me as an SL message.  When I tried this out a few weeks ago, the interface was a touch garbled (the app is still in Beta.) Still, it's easy to see the huge potential of a system that creates a direct communication network between Facebook and Second Life.

Its probably just me, but this FB application is too complex and I can't even get it to work. It never tells me the online status of my friends, and I don't seem to be able to get any assistance from the developer.

There is a simpler alternative, my Second Friends Facebook application, http://apps.facebook.com/secondfriends, though by 'simpler' I really mean 'less functional' :-)
