The steampunk community of Second Life never ceases to impress; along with the goth-cyberpunks of dystopian cities like Lost Angels and Midian, the steampunks comprise one of the largest subcultures unique to SL. (Inhabitants of a past that never was, in other words, or a future that can never be.) The Empire of Caledon is the steampunks' cultural capital in Second Life, and unsurprisingly, boasts many Resident blogs written in the 19th century personae of the citizens who live there. Among them is Hibernia on the Skids from Hotspur OToole, a hobo exile. One of his latest adventures showcases the steampunks' eccentric brilliance: a battle between Civil War-era ironclads. He's even created a recruitment video for the Middlesea Navy, for God's sake.
Update, 1:10pm: Zoe Connolly just posted lovely photos of World War I-era dogfighting over Caledon.
