Garth Goes Geek: Reviews Of Tech Company Sites In SL

Sunbelt1_2 There's a plethora of major Internet/company companies with an official presence in Second Life, but which ones are worth actually visiting?  Check out metaverse travelogue writer Garth Goode's Geek Week, with a look at the sites of IBM, Dell, Intel, Sun, and Sunbelt Software.  A couple he liked, the others, not so much.  The money quotes for each, embedded with links to his full post:

Sunbelt Software (pictured) - "The marketing push is very soft; the island is more of an image maker. That’s an honest approach — if they fill in that event calendar I can see it becoming a regular destination for people."

IBM - "No marketing-firm built showcases here. Everything looks like it is built by nerds for nerds."

Dell - "Wander around the back alley and you’ll find signs leading you to Michael Dell’s dorm room... There’s nothing revolutionary, no communities, or anything that would cause me to bother to return."

Intel - "Intel has a nice 3-D brochure with a few activities that will keep you interested for a while (or possibly frustrated for a while in the case of the chip hunt.)"

Sun Microsystems
- "While I don’t find visiting the Sun regions much of a thrill, I have to say that they’ve set the bar low and have done what they set out to do."
