Rome Wasn't Blogged In a Day

Aurelius ... and neither was Roma, a recreation of the Roman Empire in Second Life, an intriguing weave of roleplay and immersive history.  Roma Citizens is the blog devoted to their effort (they also have a Facebook group and Flickr stream, once again demonstrating SL's draw as a Web 2.0 intersection.)  In recent news, there's a new centurion guarding the city's entrance (Aurelius Concordius, right), and plans for celebrating the upcoming festival of Vestalia.  Despite its attention to historical detail, the group still manages to integrate more modern concerns, too-- there's a sub-group for Roma Citzens who want to monitor their carbon footprint, and another that's a support group for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender members of this new Rome.

Wow, thanks for the great shout out Hamlet! :)

The Vestalia is unfortunately over now (our three day festival ended on Sunday), but we have three day festivals once a month organized by the very dedicated members of our Collegia Religio Romana group, led by our Vestalis Maxima, Angelia Rees. Usually it is the middle weekend of the month, and the events are fun adaptations of ancient Roman festivals. People can join our ROMA Citizens (SPQR) group to get notices about the festivals and other events.

Valete omnes! (Bye y'all in Latin)
