The History Of A Virtual Couch

San_jose_couch What's it take to create a piece of Second Life furniture that's commercially and artistically successful?  Far more than you might imagine.  The group blog GREENE concept tracks the building of "the San Jose"-- the design group's witty name for an innovative couch that's ideal for small group meetings in SL.  (The title is meant to evoke Silicon Valley's hub city.)  The team of Peter Stindberg, Ivanova Shostakovich, and GREENEconcept Helfer take us through every step, from logo conception, to the intricate math required to calculate avatar sitting positions, to sketching out ideas (gulp) on physical graph paper.  How well the San Jose sells remains to be seen, but their blog provides great inspiration for artisan entrepreneurs-- in both worlds.

This is what makes the difference between good builders and great builders, in my humble little opinion. When I build, I'm just throwing prims around and I may happily end up with something that is cool. But when another friend of mine builds, he draws everything out, does the math, etc. His builds are way better than mine, that's for sure.
