Cen Surveys Second Life Cheating: Only 15% Approve

Sl_cheating_poll

In her latest survey, CeNedra Rivera asks if Second Life sex with someone in-world besides your RL partner constitutes cheating.  Nearly 100 of her readers responded, and the options she gave them led to some intriguing results, and some interesting observations from her.  The results are strikingly different than an either-or survey I wrote about in 2005, where nearly 60% said outright it was indeed infidelity.  Here, only a third agreed, while nearly a quarter went with the informed consent option.  I'm fascinated that another third expressed frustrated ambivalence at the very question.  Whereabouts do you fall on this spectrum?

Oh please. It is cheating if your partner thinks it is. Cheating is not about any specific act, but about violating the agreements you have made with your partner. If Second Life sex with someone other than your real life partner is all right with your real life partner, it is not cheating. If it's not all right, it's not all right. Simple enough.

I agree with DG above.

I'm not sure why people would say it's cheating if it's OK with your partner? There are lots of gay male couples who have open relationships and sometimes the partners play together, sometimes separately, and they've been together for 20 plus years. Doreen has it right, if your partner is not OK, it's cheating. If they are OK, it's not.
