Hands On Vollee For SL!
I finally had a chance to try out Vollee's Second Life-for-mobile viewer yesterday, because as it happened, the CEO of the company was on my Virtual Worlds LA conference panel. Before the talk he let me tool around with his avatar, and I have to say, it's pretty impressive. Frame rate was decent for mobile, I think 10-12 FPS (which in busier sims is often what you get on a PC), and the visuals were robust enough for basic interaction-- flying, walking, chatting. (No building tools, alas, at least not yet.) One very interesting point that came up at the panel: people are accessing SL via Vollee from 98 countries.
Lots of interesting developments at VWC; I'll be posting more next week, on Mixed Reality Mondays.

ooo... the iphone version could use tilt for walking around - like the marble in the maze game.

Ooh, interesting idea, that could be done with other phones with tilt sensors too like the Nokia N95.
Come to think of it you could do stuff like that with a lot of laptops too, how about a new combat system using the shock sensor, punch the screen and the other guy falls down, hmm, you'd probably only get to play once though ...
