Friday Open Forum: SL Bloggers, What Post Provoked the Most Controversy, and Why?

Since it's SL Blogger Friday on New World Notes, this open forum is directed at all my fellow Second Life bloggers: what post you wrote caused the most controversy, and why? (Preferably not nasty interpersonal drama, but strenuous disagreement.) Bonus question: if you knew the agita it would provoke beforehand, would you write it differently in retrospect?

One that was supposed to be a lame parade piece that got away from me.

Crap Mariner

Even though the comments are sparse, I got a ton of hatemail for this one:

(When the jar was down to $100, I handed it to SecondLie to see what he could do with it. That's when he posted the Linden bears idea.)

"Is there an inworld music crowd recession"
http://djdoubledown.blogspot.com/2009/04/is-there-current-music-crowd-recession.html

stirred up the most on my blog (and others including new world notes):

There were many varied opinions on the topic. (Some people seemed rather annoyed that I even brought up the question.)

Arwyn Quandry

For sure my rather innocent post on the revamp of a fashion sim in TSL caused a huge flamewar through comments, started by an ex-copybotter who owned an island and accused the owners of the redone island of copying Armidi's looks. I was totally surprised that it caused that much of an uproar and boosted my pageviews to over 600 in a single day.

@Adric Antfarm

Oh yes, that one has been tossed in my face a couple times. One person I know *loves* to pull that one out anytime the parade is mentioned. I put a lot of work into that event, too. Ah, well. :-/

Back to the point: None really come to mind to me, though I suspect the ones that have caused the most controversy are probably Linden blog stuff. Gambling ban, Adfarms, sexual ageplay, the early Zindra threads, or particularly the Daniel Linden "Keeping Us Safe, Together" one.

Foobar Merlin

I'd love to have some controversy sometime...
But still there aren't much readers to my blog.

Or should I just write more striking?! :)

Emerald Wynn

I never want to hear the words "Lemania Indigo" again. The violent reaction that my post about her Prozac Hunt evoked from her fans, as well as an extremely threatening letter from her business partner -- which I have half a mind to post -- were uncalled for. I expected, if anything, a mature discussion or at least some chides to lighten up -- not vile language, threats and personal insults.

And yes, I wouldn't hesitate to write it again. I still stand behind my opinion.

This one:

http://secondlifeshrink.com/2009/05/25/no-man-is-an-island/

prompted an unexpectedly vituperative counter-blog, ironically from someone who seemed to agree with the point I was making, but had just misread my post, obliging me to post a clarification:

http://secondlifeshrink.com/2009/05/25/just-to-clarify/

It wasn't all bad though; it did get me a mention in the blog of SL legend Prokofy Neva:

Fame at last!

Prad Prathivi

I don't think I can even say "freebie" anymore without the blogosphere freaking out, lmao.

Gwyneth Llewelyn

Surprisingly, it was the discussion of Obama and Cavaco Silva (Portuguese President) were really in Second Life or not. And the discussion around the definition of what it means to "be in SL".

http://gwynethllewelyn.net/2009/07/14/obama-becomes-second-president-to-use-second-life-as-a-dissemination-tool/

I guess that as long as a president is not actively flirting someone in SL, has bought a few sex pose balls, and visited a Gorean community, they're not really "here" but just visiting... ;)

Lanna

My most recent post was an interview with a free woman from Gor. She posted the link to the Gorean forums which turned into 7 pages of comments including accusations of it being a set up.
