Exclusive to NWN, Iris Ophelia's ongoing showcase of all things stylish in SL
I just had the pleasure of curating the RMB City Design Contest, and I was very impressed and inspired by many of the entries we received. In fact, I feel a pressing need to shine the spotlight on a number that deserve an honorable mention. This article is the first of three post that will highlight those, followed by my three finalists, and the one ultimate winner, to be announced in the next week.
Here are my favorite entries that may not have made the final cut, but are no less worth sharing:
Ginnezu Illios of Ginnezu Silver Factory submitted this delicate Swallowtail Butterfly Design Necklace. The skeletal loops and arches forming this butterfly's wings reminded me of many areas of RMB City where striking organic design collides sharply with the sleek, refined designs of mankind. This piece is also very versatile. I wore it to the RMB Gala with my puffed red and gold gown, and the very next day wore it with a plain black top and jeans. Stylistically speaking I'm not a fan of larger gauge chains in SL jewelry design, but I am very much in love with the look of layered, three dimensional pendants like this, so I'm ultimately very fond of Ginnezu's little Swallowtail.
Autumn Hykova's hairstyles tend to be just as sweet and cute as the name of her store, Tiny Bird. The hairstyle she submitted is called Precious Things, and is a stylishly mussed semi-bouffant updo with razor-straight bangs. What struck me most about this style is how it seems to resemble the
hill-side rice paddies in the RMB sims-- confined tightly around the
sides, but wild and wispy on top. This style is a worthwhile addition to the inventory of any trend-hunting fashionistas. It also lends itself well to the addition of hair ornaments like tiaras, flowers, and kanzashi, so if you wear a lot of formal outfits this style would be ideal for you too.
This last mention was perhaps the hardest one for me to deny a finalist's place. Kavar Cleanslate of Exile submitted this style, named Li. For the past little while, friends have been suggesting I do a little shopping at Exile, however I had never really gotten around to it. Li absolutely took my breath away, and moved a trip to Exile much higher up on my shopping priorities list. The asymmetrical, feathery fringe bangs are a charming detail, but only the cherry on top of this edgy style. There's something very natural and pure about accessorizing women's hair with flowers. Li takes the provincial floral hair accessories and infuses them with a punkier current, resulting in a style that manages to be sweet, exotic, and absolutely wild.
Remember, in the next week I will be announcing the three finalists, who will receive L$10,000 each, and one overall winner, who will get a total of L$20,000, and an entire article just about them!
