Chestnut Rau’s weekly round-up of upcoming SL events…
Since 2008 artist Joseph DeLappe (MGhandi Chakrabarti in SL) has been reenacting memorable events from Mahatma Ghandi's life in Second Life. He recreated the famous 1930 Salt March using a virtual treadmill to walk 240 miles guiding his avatar throughout SL. For the past 9 months he has continued his exploration by imprisoning MGhandi in a jail cell in SL just as the real Ghandi was imprisoned. MGhandi the avatar has been in his virtual cell at Yeravda Prision 24 hours a day on Odyssey Contemporary Art and Performance Island.
On Tuesday, January 26th MGhandi will be released from virtual jail and at 10am, 6pm and 11pm there will be live “hootenanny” concerts featuring songs of freedom and protest. The celebrations will take place on a
festival concert stage inside MGandhi’s prison
compound. According to DeLappe scheduled performers include "The Beatles, Amy Winehouse, Pope Benedict XVI, Hello Kitty, Jim Morrison, Prince Charles, Spongebob Squarepants, Marilyn Monroe, Robert Smith (of the Cure), Wonder Woman and many, many more! " I don't know about the guest list but I am sure I want to check it out. Don't you? In Oddessy. [SLurl teleport at this link]
