Virtual Pet Owners Now Hiring Virtual Pet Sitters

Meeroo Second Life virtual pet

I've been casually following the growing popularity of Meeroos, a new breed of Second Life virtual animal you can raise and care for, but because they're just the latest brand for an already popular past time in SL, I wasn't quite sure how much unique enthusiasm they've actually inspired. So this Help Wanted ad on the Linden Lab user forum makes me want to take more notice:

I'm looking for people to pet my Meeroos, I will hire you for 30 minutes for L$300 and you will be given a Heads Up Display to wear and pet them.

Yes, that's right: a Second Life user is hiring another Second Life user to be a virtual pet sitter. And paying more than a $1 per sitting, which is comparatively quite a bit. I just paid a nice woman $20 a day to take care of my actual cat, which is really not a whole lot more.

Hat tip: Melanie774 Kidd of Grid Expectations, also pictured (though as far as I know, she isn't hiring a Meeroo sitter.)

I am really not sure what to say about this...

Franklin Lubitsch

I would gladly do this. Sounds like a nice pastime while I'm checking my email, FB wall, and Plurk.

gillian tunney

do they accumulate points / grow or something if someone is petting them? or is this pet sitting position for giving them attention only?

Chenin Anabuki

We're doing work here. But even i'm surprised.

Rawst Berry

Ha, I actually IMed that person asking them about it, and they changed their price to a lot less than 300l, so I didn't do it.

And this is why I don't even know where to start with explaining SL to anyone I know. :)

Keep being awesome, SL.

lol I've heard about this, but that's a fairly high going rate. 100L is more the norm I think. Petting meeroos increases a players regard which will open new gameplay as your regard improves, how valuable it will be to the owner is still unknown. Some ppl are just crazy competitive lol.

SuperStar Faith

helloo :) just get back to me inworld. IM superstar faith
Thank you for your time, and i will be glad to take care of your meeros, if you still hiring :)
