Watch Abso the Vampire, an Impressively-Produced Feature-Length SL Machinima With Cool Effects

Abso the Vampire is a machinima that should make for fun weekend viewing -- partly because it's somewhat NSFW, and also because it's nearly an hour long. With impressive post-production editing and effects by director Adam Falco (Falco Tomsen in SL), a professional filmmaker, it includes 80 special effects, required 8 months of shooting in SL, and took 18 months to complete. Here's part one:

See parts two through four after the break -- and read Adam's production notes at the end:

Now some notes from Mr. Falco on how he brought this movie to life (via Second Life):

SL Machinima Abso the Vampire

Part I Introduction notes: "Application of special effects: 3D text animation realized with cinema 4D."

Part III notes: "This part of the film has been particularly difficult to obtain the best result. Here there are hours and hours of work more than other parts of the film. Nightmares scenes realized with a specific scenery on SL and special effects realized with 3D Studio Max with plug-ins Fume FX and krakatoa particles effects. Fire faces: Faces consumed by flames (min. 3:08). This effect is realised with Avid MC with a displacement map effect." Pictures on Flickr.

"Fingers that play piano. (min 6:19) I have created it with Photoshop step by step. Pictures on Flickr."

Part IV notes:

"This opening scene of the fourth chapter has been created with Autodesk Maya, including the hair animation." Flickr photos here.

"The direction, set design and of course all the special effects were created by me. Abso Zlatkis wrote and produced the movie."

I've only seen part one so far (and hope to see the rest this weekend), and while I noticed some possible shortcomings, such as narrative continuity, I think they're more than eclipsed by the scope of its ambition and amazing post-production effects, which should inspire other SL machinima makers to new heights. On that score, Mr. Falco, well done.
