Cool Kickstarter Merges MMO Gameplay to IRL Musical Taste
Songmasters: The Music Wars is a new Kickstarter game project that is much more innovative than others I've seen in recent weeks -- basically, it merges MMO gameplay to players' real life taste in music. Here's a look at the gameplay:
If I'm understanding the pitch right, each player rates songs based on their own personal preferences, and during PvP combat, you have to try and guess your opponent's "frequency" based on how you think they'll rate a particular song on the battlefield:
I say "if I'm understanding", because the gameplay is a bit complex -- essentially, it's laying a steampunk/guild war-themed story and MMO gaming on top of real world music tastes. But if they can manage the user interface challenge, it could very likely become a pretty big game, especially because it's cross-platform (iOS, the Web, Android, etc.) The pitch doesn't mention this, but it could also potentially become a really interesting and fun way for driving new music discovery, which is still a big challenge for online music categorization and retail. Anyway, go here to check the full pitch.
