Iggy

My hat is off to Tom on this venture. I know that the legal (and moral) issues of virtual commerce alone could consume the time of several centers.

These technologies will "take off" at some point into mainstream use. What we've learned for good and ill in Second Life will serve future designers, scholars, and investors well.

Tom's the guy to follow on this stuff. I've based much of my work on his lead and I'm excited to see what he comes up with next.

Wow, thanks for the shoutout James, and thanks Iggy and Dirk for the kind words - please email me anytime! This new center is a new thing and who knows where it will go, but I hope it will lead to some good collaborations and some interesting research.

Sandy Sandalwood

This really is good news.

lol just to add a clarifying note based on a rumor that's made it back to me: I am NOT taking a job at Intel! Hee hee. I'm just one of a number of academics who will be collaborating with the Intel Science and Technology Center for Social Computing that has its "hub" at UC Irvine.
