SL Feature Wish List for Avatars
Marly Peapod has an interesting wish list of avatar enhancing features she'd like to see in Second Life:
- A New Avatar Making Tool
- A way to modify our facial expressions in pictures
- Cloth simulation
- Hair Simulation
They're all quite appealing and well-annotated with video demos and everything, though given recent events, they may fall more into the realm of wishful thinking. But maybe some can be picked up by third party viewer developers.
You can modify facial expressions on demand by using MystiTool.

The second life avatar is awful.
JIRA to improve avatar mesh was filed Nov 2007.
