Should This Mixed Reality Profile be the New NWN Masthead?
It's the New Year, so it's time for a new New World Notes mixed reality profile photo for this blog's masthead. (Way way past time, actually, as the current one has been up there since, um, 2006.) What do you think of this one, combining the update to my Hamlet Au avatar created by Iris, combining a recent photo I took in China? I kinda wonder if I should grow back my Van Dyke and take a photo that'll look more like my avatar, but maybe Hamlet should be a virtual archive to my facial hair past. (Then again, maybe I should stop self-obsessing.) Feedback wanted! Just be gentle. Or brutal. Or better yet, brutally gentle.

I'm not a fan of beards, but the new avatar does look good.
His hair, in particular, looks nice. You should copy his hair IRL. A little off the sides, a little longer on the top.
Also, you seem to be a bit skinnier than your avatar. God, I wish I had that!

But seriously I prefer the new vibe. He looks younger, the old glasses were to small for his face and hid his features. Look like two different people.

Go for it, but I agree with Scarp; more contrast on the RL photo would be nice. (Is it just me, or does SL Hamlet N.0 look like Aaron Sanchez? Maybe I watch too much _Chopped_.)

Use the new pic; it's SL. Keep the Van Dyke, just as I have kept my Dreads. At least you had that hair IRL at some point and can grow it back whenever you wish.

If you're now using that avatar, I vote for the new image.
Since you do tie your RL self to your virtual self closely as a bit of what you do for a living - this new image conveys that. It brands better for your image as a real life journalist covering virtual realities.

While both images have an avatar and a RL you, the new one looks both modern and more professional. And you and the avatar seem to be in similar kinds of places - the backgrounds theme well together.
That is why I feel it brands better than the old one did.
