Don't Miss Whiskey Monday's Stunningly Expressive SL Robot Portraits

Whiskey Monday Tin
Janine "Iris Ophelia" Hawkins' ongoing review of gaming and virtual world style

Whiskey Monday has a reputation for taking some of the most evocative Second Life snapshots out there. Her screenshots tell stories, and their visual quality never suffers for the message she's trying to convey with each one, and I know I'm not alone when I say I admire her talents tremendously.

She recently posted a series of pictures featuring a beautifully corroded automaton avatar, and they may just be my favorites pieces out of her entire body of work.

It's not much of a challenge to break down why these pictures are so interesting, so forgive me while I gush like a student of the Humanities for just a moment. Each one juxtaposes this battered yet advanced looking android with something jarringly different -- a delicate flower, a songbird, even a toy robot -- while Whiskey has also shot the mesh avatar she's modelling in ways that make her face appear even more expressive. There's a very deliberate blend of angles and tone and body language and symbolism that is utterly phenomenal.

Be sure to check out Whiskey's Flickr page or her blog for the other images from this stunning robot-themed set, as well as much more of her beautiful (and clever) work.

Those are truly amazing - as is the rest of Whiskey Monday's work. Thanks for the tip-off.

I'm not much of a drinker, in fact I never touch any alcoholic beverages at all - but I need my daily fix of Whiskey ;)

She is too modest to say it, but this and other pictures of Whiskey's are for sale at http://whiskey-monday.fineartamerica.com/
