Open Forum: Has Second Life's New ToS Caused Any SL Merchant to Stop Selling Their Content?
In last week's NWN reader survey, 45% of respondents say that Linden Lab's draconian new Terms of Service has caused them to "stop selling or creating content". That was intentionally a broad question, but this week, I'm asking a more specific query: Can you name any Second Life merchant that has stopped selling content on the SL Marketplace or in-world as a direct result of the ToS? If so, please post their brand name and avatar name in Comments.
I ask this question, partly inspired by a comment from reader "Phantom Republic", who notes that the controversy over the ToS hasn't impacted his Second Life shopping experience at all:
Interestingly, I haven't come across a single one of my favorite retailers (and I'm an avid shopper in SL) that's dimmed their lights over this. I know people get seriously peeved over Linden Lab on occasion (and I certainly have), but until they have serious competition that not only matches but surpasses what they do, this will not cause a major exodus. Every time they've p*ssed me off, they've either changed their mind -- or I came back anyway.
Those points are very well put. No SL retailer has contacted me about the ToS, let alone told me they've pulled their content from SL's shelves, and I haven't seen any reports of same on the SL blogosphere/social media channels, which I follow pretty closely. But it's possible there are examples I've missed. If so, please post in Comments, ideally with links to SL merchants' blog/Twiter/Plurk feed, where they've announced having made these moves.
