The isolation of critical systems from the Internet (where practical and feasible) has always been a good strategy in terms of security. It may be time to relook hookups of important things to it, and some have gone full-bore:

Is the OS in your refrigerator up to date?
When is the last time you checked the anti-virus in your car?

+1 to ser Shug. I checked the fridge and after suitable upgrade with a hammer - its more or less stone age again. Keeps food cold and even took the light out.

As for the rest...'.. we’ve got shit in the water supply" and at least thats bio as opposed to lead which we do read about you know. "..libraries" well recently had 7 weeks without power and was happy to rediscover that libraries here in the civilised world have - books. Even caught up on some Gibson I missed and did some calculus fillin I had been wanting to do since the 80s. "Your juicer is already Internet-connected" nope I am not some hipster arsehole. "The only difference between my solar panels and a hydroelectric dam" is you are an idiot. Why have the things if you still rely on the grid?

"humans are just Things too." well yes thats why your GOP put trump in. We over in civilisation put it down to mass brainfreeze. "It’s possible we all keep guzzling away and all die." 'Nuff said (sorry Stan)

"If Google went down for a month, I am pretty sure we would see worldwide economic collapse." Well now.. which bits? The bits that support you? Oh dear.

"..a harbinger of how the Internet could kill us all" so it has a fundamental plus side. See you at the hunter gatherer solstice social "Raph". We might even give you your missing consonant matey.

"was happy to rediscover that libraries here in the civilised world have - books."

Library funding has been decreasing for years.

" "Your juicer is already Internet-connected" nope I am not some hipster arsehole."

You should re-read that paragraph. The point is that whatever you put IN your juicer (or, if you have no juicer -- I don't -- whatever you drink, frankly, that isn't tap water) was enabled to get to you by the Internet.

""The only difference between my solar panels and a hydroelectric dam" is you are an idiot. Why have the things if you still rely on the grid?"

1) That's about an actual fundamental similarity between means of power generation.

2) It reduces costs.

3) There's a lot of regulation in different jurisdictions; many *require* you to be on the grid.

""humans are just Things too." well yes thats why your GOP put trump in. "

Not MY gop, that's for sure. :P

""If Google went down for a month, I am pretty sure we would see worldwide economic collapse." Well now.. which bits? The bits that support you? Oh dear."

No, the bits that support most of the businesses you use every day and depend on.

"We might even give you your missing consonant matey."

I actually have that consonant you are thinking of! It comes at the end of the actual full name that Raph is merely an abbreviation for. :)
