I applaud this initiative. Unfortunately many creators are making their mesh clothes that you must hide your feet, arms, legs... you end up losing the logical proportions of your avatar. There are also many creators who label for example their shoes as "Compatible and ready for Aesthetic" or "TMP" or whatever... and you must still hide your feet completely, this sucks... There are also users with the good intention wearing some boots inside they pants, make them so small be cause that boots may break the pants... so they end up using very small feet.

Penny Patton and others have been pushing the idea for some time.

A couple of years ago I made a 'Model Shape Tool' (in the SL marketplace) to help people get the avatar portions correct. You can set it to the height you want in meters or feet.

Most do not realize the viewer's shape settings have an error in the height setting. Firestorm fixed it. The Linden viewer is still wrong. It shows a value 0.5ft or 15.2cm less than the actual height of the avatar. Thus the recommendation to use a prim to measure height.
