SL EVENTS OF THE WEEK, 4/10-4/16

Real world politics and protest, poetry, and pirates make this week's Event roster.  Background on the first two events just published here, with the political meeting of special interest for Residents in the 90802, 90813, and 90814 area codes of the Los Angeles area who plan on voting in the June election.   Also, live electronica and a noobie show and tell.  Details for attending after the break.

Monday, 4/10

4:00PM - 5:00PM - Digital Cultures chat "Local Politics".  "[H]ow might virtual worlds like Second Life be used not just to forge political connections across great distances," event host Tom Bukowski asks, "but also be used to empower local communities? Are there any parallels between local politics in first life and forms of 'local' politics in Second Life, like disputes between neighbors in a sim, or debates within a group? How can virtual worlds change the meaning of both 'local' and 'politics?'"  Discuss here, and consider the campaign of Brian Ulaszewski for Long Beach's City Council, Second District.

7:00PM-7:45PM - Rally for immigrant rights!  "Si se puede! El pueblo unido jamas sera vencido!", event organizer Sarah Newchurch announces.  "On April 10, 2006, immigrants and their allies are continuing historic mobilizations in Washington, DC and multiple cities to... demand real immigration reform that is comprehensive, respects civil rights, reunites families, protects workers, and offers a path to citizenship for the current undocumented and future immigrants to the US. Rally at the Northumberland Manor House in front of the Aristasian Embassy."

1:00PM - 2:00PM - New Players Show & Tell.  Ideally scheduled for European Residents in particular, the event's hosted by Carl Metropolitan:  "New Players--show off what you've made in Second Life--and win prizes, too. Come on down to New Citizens Plaza in Kuula to show us what you've got and tell us about it." 

6:00PM - 6:45PM - Poetry Guild Readings. Hensonian Pennyfeather of the Poetry Guild and Elf Clan invites poets to share their PG-rated material at a gathering around the Fire Ring in ElvenGlen.

7:00PM - 8:00PM - Pirate Battle! - Chase Speculaas invites both audience members and prospective scurvy dog crew members to attend this war of tall ships determined by cannonfire in the waters around Hollywood island.  Aaaaar!

Thursday, 4/13

8:00PM - 11:00PM - LunaCast: Full Moon Techno, Live Original Electronica. Tinisi and Cheetah Lightworker present electronica group robots.txt streaming "orginal downtempo, techno, trance and ambient music mixed straight out of The Borg, our almost-sentient synthesizer rig" live into Luncast Moonbase in Dimidiata.

I never thought I would actually get involved with political conversations. Apparently I have more deeper opinions about some things then I realized after showing up at those two events on Monday.
