You've already met Lovisa in this blog, now meet her and other members of the Federated Media ad staff in-world this Wednesday at 7pm SLT, at FM's first virtual world Salon-- direct portal to SL's Federated Media office here. The main chat topic, of course, will be the how and why of using their service to buy ad space on NWN, but I suspect it'll also lead to some interesting conversations on the role of advertising in the era of Web 2.0.
The party's being held on the roof, by the way, as a playful wink at the legendary parties FM founder John Battelle once held atop the building of his Industry Standard magazine. They eventually became emblematic of the dot com boom era at its most excessive, so it says something that in this new age of the Internet economy, their analogue will be thrown from within a virtual world.
Federated Media's SL office, by the way, was created by master builder and Resident-since-Beta Eggy Lippmann (Second Life background here; RL resume here.) Working with a tiny plot of real estate (albeit one with a great view), Eggy created a three-level setup with an information/rate card dispensor up top and a dance floor down below. To symbolize the divide between advertising and editorial, while the FM staff talks business on the roof, I'll remain at ground level, busting moves.
