This week in-world, take sides in the ongoing battle between Orcs and Elves, attend a meet-and-greet with the excellent interns of Creative Commons, and head over to Spaceport Alpha to learn the very convenient truth about satellite-assisted research on global warming. Those NWN-recommended events and more after the break.
All times in SLT, i.e. Pacific Standard
Wednesday, July 19
3:00PM-5:00PM: The Invisible Band performs live in SL. "Alazarin Mondrian will be performing live a selection of original dynamic space rock music. This is music unlike any other performed live in Second Life." Haven't caught Mondrian yet, but invisible and space rock sounds like virtual chocolate and peanut butter to me.
Thursday, July 20
4:00PM-5:30PM: Meet the Creative Commons Interns! Chat and party with the four bright and vivacious summer interns for CC in Second Life, a treat for architects and designers, musicians, writers, techies, and fans of Free Culture. More info here.
Saturday, July 22
10:00AM-11:AM: English/Spanish Language New User Q&A. A great idea brought to us by New Citizens, Inc.
7:00PM-8:00PM: Making Fiction Into Virtual Reality. Potentially fascinating event, with the speaker discussing "Lopayzanilaya, which is designed to replicate a portion of the Celestial Court from the Aizvarya novels." Why fascinating? "She has built it exactly as the books describe — and she should know; she is the author of the original books. She will talk about her work, her creation and offer a tour of her creation."
Sunday, July 23
11:00AM-12:00PM: Observing Global Warming from Space. The awe-inspiring International Spaceport Museum hosts a presentation on TRUTHS, the UK-based satellite system that will monitor global warming.
4:00PM-5:30PM: Orcs vs. Elves fights with Combat Cards. The creators of the Magic-style Combat Cards fighting game present a grudge match pitting lithe and pale against burly and green. More info on the game here.
The spaceflight museum presentation about the new TRUTHS satellite will be on Sunday, July 23 (not Saturday the 22nd). Feel free to delete this comment if you edit the post.
