Rik Riel's weekly round-up of upcoming SL events...
I am helping organize a couple of in-world events in conjunction with the
2006 Machinima Festival,
happening from November 4-5 in New York City. It's the premiere gathering of machinima artists from around the
world to honor the best in the medium with the much-coveted "Mackie" awards. This year a record
four machinima films by Second Life artists are nominated for a Mackie! Also coming up this week, electronica from the moon, a Swedish seminar
on public policy, steampunks, giant snails, oh, and U2 in concert
(sorta)....
It makes sense that for the first time the Machinima Fest comes to
Second Life. First on Thursday, November 2 at 5PM SLT, there will be a
pre-screening of several of the nominated machinima films, along with
in-world appearances by the machinima artists themselves, hosted by the
President of the Academy of Machinima Arts and Sciences Paul Marino,
aka Hiro Quasimodo in Second Life. Then on the evening of Saturday, November 4 at
6PM SLT, the final awards ceremony will be broadcast in-world. Both
events will be held at the Laguna Beach theater, hosted by the Electric Sheep Company. See the Machinima Festival website for details.
(Other events: All times in SLT, "Second Life Time"-- i.e., Pacific Standard)
Friday, November 3
Eudoxa,
a public policy think tank based in Stockholm, Sweden, will be holding
a seminar on how virtual worlds impact economics, entertainment and
politics. At Uvvy Island.

Those interested
in joining a new steampunk group devoted to role-playing and
city-building are invited to an organizational meeting at Caledon
(184,78).
The role-playing group U2inSL will be performing a free concert to benefit the
One Campaign, the
Make Poverty History Campaign,
Music Rising and the
African Well Fund. To reduce lag, heavily-primmed avatars will be asked to limit their attachments to a minimum. At Dragon Moon (128, 199).
Sunday, November 5
10:00AM & 6:00PM - Lunacast PartyLunacast,
a live web-based broadcast of trance, techno and ambient music, will be
holding a couple of parties in Second Life featuring
DJs Tinisi Lightworker and Cheetah Lightworker.

or theme using limited prims. L$500 to the top builder, so bring your
lEEt prim-pimping skillz. At Dreams (105, 148).

Rik,
Thanks so much for the mention, hope we don't max out my humble parcel! Do you mind correcting the post a little for me though? We are quite proud that although we DO play techno and electronic music, we are NOT DJ's. This will be live original music played in real time with synths and drum machines. Believe it or not, we have more than enough original tracks to play a rave length set. Hope you can make it and thanks again for the mention, I use this column all the time to find cool stuff to do in world.
