Rik Riel's weekly round-up of upcoming SL events...
What better way to celebrate the holidays than by giving to those in need. This week, check out two new SL efforts to raise awareness and funds for some worthy causes.
First is the "Yak Shack" (direct teleport SLURL), a fun little barn built by Aimee Weber as a benefit for the Save the Children charity. At the shack, you can purchase your very own virtual yak for L$1,000, which will help provide a real world yak to some folks in the developing world who could one of these sturdy, dependable beasts of burden. Each virtual yak is totally customizable, and if you bring your pimped-out yak to the Yak Shack on December 16, you might win fabulous prizes.
Another similar effort is the "World Vision Village," an in-world fundraiser sponsored by the UK charity World Vision. The aim of the village is to show some of the products you can purchase through their Alternative Gift Catalogue website in an immersive setting (Direct Teleport SLURL.) Definitely worth a visit. (My own report on it here.)
Also coming up this week: an SL wine tasting (?), tarot readings, erotico fantastico burlesque paintings, craptastic poetry, and a blowout party for the lastest version of Poser. All that and more after the jump...
