"It’s not quite from my window," Tillery Woodhen tells me, "but it’s in the neighborhood.
"This is a shot of the center of Washtown, a Firefly-themed settlement in the Barnet sim. For those of you who don’t know, Firefly was a short-lived but very cool sci-fi series where settling the stars was a lot like the old West. The movie Serenity followed from it. Much of the architecture in town is a mix of old west, far east and high tech. This shot shows the center of town with the Firefly-class ship Serenity and our central building, which has a bar, game room, shooting range and Companion spaces and some holiday decorations. In other views, you’d see the mechanics/engineers shop, general store, saloon, temple, warehouse and marketplace." (Tillery himself runs Washtown's Shiny Saloon.)
"It’s a small town, but it’s very tight knit. We all help each other with building, creating and simply enjoying our town. The newest development is the growth of a little business core around the Big Red Button, a shop for Firefly fans. We’re very open and accepting and, as far as I know, the only Firefly-themed area in SL.
"All of us searched Second Life for a place to call home. And we all, despite our diverse backgrounds, found it here. I came here from the Provincetown sims, and found myself more at home here. Now that we’ve found it, a lot of don’t leave the area that often except for the occasional item or supply run. We’ve found our place in the ‘verse and are very happy with it. We hope more will join us on the raggedy edge."
And where in the world do you live? Take a look at the entire Window series for inspiration, read the details for submitting to NWN's World From My Window series, then send me a screenshot or video link of your SL home or favorite haunt.
Actually, it's in Burnet, not Barnet. . .but the rest is accurate.
