I spied Penny Patton sitting in the upper bleaches of Kula's Roman coliseum during the guidebook appearance, and I was so struck by her, with her flying ace pilot goggles and her belt of World War I-era handgrenades, that I had to know more. In fact, Kula's audience was so diverse, it inspired me to launch a new semi-recurring NWN series: "All About My Avatar", profiles of fascinating SL personae, and the people behind them.
Which begins with Penny, after the break.
On creating Penny
"The avatar was mainly inspired by 1920's pulp adventures, non-Victorian steampunk, and air pirates. I didn't see a whole lot of any of that in SL for a long time."
The wanderings of Penny Patton
"I enjoy role playing but I never seem to find the time for it. I'm always either hidden away in a sandbox somewhere, or wandering around and exploring. A lot of it is horribly uninteresting. I used to randomly pick spots on the grid to teleport to, and see what I could find. The grid is so large now, it's a lot more difficult to find someplace interesting that way. I poke through Search and people's picks. Places like Dogfight Atoll, Midian City, Breaker's Folley, Nexus Prime, and Saijo City. I tend to like the really detailed builds the most."
On being a professional cartoon artist
"Heh, well, freelance. Which is artist-speak for unemployed. I've done a couple small-press comics, and artwork for the RIFTs card game."
Is there another fascinating avatar out there I should know all about? E-mail me, or IM Hamlet Au, and tell me more.
Yay for Penny, and Yay for a new semi-redurring theme!
