If you've known Torley Linden (nee Torgeson) these last couple years, you've likely had Torley's voice in your head throughout that time, a voice that's consistent even when Torley has been, at various periods, a large bird, a young man with a keyboard, a squat alien, a teethy watermelon, or a gorgeous woman in love with another. No matter what the avatar, in chat and on blogs and elsewhere, the uniquely ebullient personality of Torley (like Torley's affinity for neon red and green) remains the same.
Now creating a series of How To instructional YouTube videos for Linden Lab, that voice and Torley's real voice merge, and to me, at least, it's the ultimate in mixed reality. Somehow, Torley's true voice is totally a surprise-- and exactly what I imagined.
Awwwwe, thank you graciously for bloggin' about this, Jamlet! :)
We're at a crucial now of scaling support in SL, and while I'm just one person — with many identities, apparently, hehe — I hope I can do my piece of the pie to inspire further, and motivate more Residents to create Video Tutorials, and better documentation period. I love sharing knowledge!
Some context: I started making these vids out of frustration, because there's hardly any Video Tutorials for Second Life, yet I hear so many requests for them. Amy Gahran blogged a great example of why this matters.
Video makes sense as tech. gets better and streaming multimedia is easy and near-ubiquitous — the endpoint being, it's like watching over my shoulder and seeing my Second Life like I live it.
So inspired by all this, I gathered my self-confidence (which Second Life has boosted in oodles), and started filming. Also touches on my passion for machinima. Earlier, I've been inspired by Lindens doing presentations like the time Philip and Cory did a Google TechTalk, Robin on various social networking panels, and James' video tour through LindenWorld. Longterm, I dream of being able to demo SL in front of live audiences (will need my earplugs, conventions are loud, but I hear so many fascinating stories...)
And:
* It's actually neon PINK and green. :)
* My favorite lone color continues to be turquoise-to-cobalt blue, as shown in the eyes of some of my avatars. I like the blue-within-blue eyes from Dune even more.
* Some Torleys are rogue, e.g. Torange was suitably blue-and-orange. I recognize that watermelon is my favorite fruit, but there's a whole bowl of natural sugars... in other words, there's always a bigger picture, and Connections, to what I'm involved in.
* Mebbe you've seen this already, but in my endeavors to promote content creation, there's also a video of of me dancing for textures.
Thanxies again! ^________^ <--- MELONZILLA's super-wide teethy smile
