"Then I noticed it, that I was blushing because this guy was completely coming on to me. And I felt really liberated being nude and walking around. And then I saw the Fly button, and I was like, this is perfect, I'm just going to soar. So I started flying, and I'm like, this is a great feeling, I'm nude and I'm flying over this world."
Avatars is an upcoming SL documentary from two French filmmakers, developed in associated with Libération, the esteemed Paris newspaper. They have a blog tracking their progress and featuring numerous in-person interviews of esteemed Residents-- Spin Martin, Urizenus Sklaar, Trinity Serpentine, Lo Jacobs, and more, so it's all worth a look.
I was also struck by their series of interviews of unnamed Residents based in Los Angeles for many of them confound the stereotype of the SL user. It's become a truism, for example, that the exotic dancer avatar on stage is probably not young, gorgeous, or even a woman, in real life.
Well, sometimes she's not. And sometimes, she is.
Update, 11:33am: Hmm, the LA interview footage has been taken down from YouTube; checking with the filmmakers now. Meantime, check out the blog, which still includes video of Residents watching portions of the documentary from within SL.
Hey - that YouTube vid has been removed... was it too exotic?
