Virtual interior designers, take note: a top real world office furniture company is running a contest in SL to design an innovative new executive chair. Winner gets an actual chair from their product line worth up to $1600, and more key, gets to present their model to the company's design staff, with the idea of incorporating their ideas into actual models. This is the kind of mixed reality I'd like to see more of: Second Life's Residents not simply treated as a marketing opportunity, but as content creators with untapped potential to prototype the future. Full details after the break.
Steelcase... is sponsoring a Second Life Design Contest for the most innovative and best-designed high performance office chair. Steelcase is looking for SL’s top designers to create the coolest and next prize winning office chair for its Steelcase Store in Second Life.
The winning designs will be showcased in the SL Steelcase Store and will receive their choice of a high performance chair featured at store.steelcase.com (max value of $1599 USD). In addition the winning designers will have the opportunity to present their work to Steelcase’s seating and design teams in Second Life. Quality designs may even be considered for future product development opportunities.
Location: Steelcase Store, Silicon City (40,170,23)
For entry information and to register: [email protected]
Registration begins on July 1st
Set up dates - July 28th & 29th
Jury Week – July 30th – August 3rd

Registered contestants will receive a designated plot location at the contest’s pavilion on Silicon City to display their chair and display. SL Contact – Kelly Emms – In world Contest Event Coordinator
I'm curious if the winning entry will involve sculpties — Xenius Revere, for example, has created such inspiring work with his line thus far. Any other great sculpti-furni creators who should be encouraged to enter this? :) I'd like to check out their existing art too!

Earlier today I was flipping through an Ikea catalog wondering why *they* weren't doing something in SL... and then along comes Steelcase. Didn't expect that one.
