Playboy's centerpiece fails to unfold; seasonal slippage widespread but Pontiac, Virtual Holland buck the trend.
Things continue on a somewhat downward trend this Summer, but it isn't all bad news. Despite the recent new entrants to the list (Playboy and STA Travel) who started out in the top ten, Virtual Holland (1,512, pictured) continues to edge upwards, gaining more visitors every week. This slow, steady growth may see them climb back into the top ten again soon, at this rate.
Playboy's island really isn't holding the visitors right now. While the site is supposed to have Bunnies on staff 24x7, the island was completely deserted during five of our checks this week. Even so, it's just not delivering the sort of retention you'd expect from this popular brand, perhaps due to a mismatch in expectations.
Roleplaying, shoes, basketball and more, as we continue the analysis after the break.
Cars remained firm with Nissan gaining slightly, and Pontiac actually surging to a close third, coming very close to displacing The Pond from the number two spot. The Pond and companion Australian site, ABC Island are showing similar slides this week as the media boost of recent weeks continues to fade.
Roleplaying remains a solid traffic draw, with dedicated role-players continuing to occupy the City of Lost Angels and Midgar (8,196).
Basketball continues the recent trend with Ballers City (4,308) continuing to remain stable, while the NBA continues its slide towards the bottom of the charts.
Shoes, specifically Adidas (216) and Reebok (204) remain pretty much off everyone's radar. Coca-Cola (60) continues to sit on the bottom as a part of its viral marketing exercise, but cable giant Comcast (120) looks to be a serious challenger for last place. Once the last phase of Coca-Cola's competition is complete and their brand-presence more or less relinquished, we'll be dropping them from our list.

Methodology
Mixed reality sites in this headcount are selected for their prominence, either from publicity or real world name recognition. Sites with consistent low traffic (500 or less weekly) may be dropped in future Headcounts in favor of other sites. We do not count sites with camping chairs, or visitors in the orientation sims, as there seems to be little evidence to suggest that they will become visitors to the parent site - and if they do, we catch them when we headcount the site anyway.
We collect data four times per day for each site at 2am, 8am, 2pm and 8pm (times in SLT/US Pacific) plus/minus 1 hour. For each sample we count the number of people at the site at the time. We average those samples across the week, and then assume that average to hold constant, with each visitor spending a half hour on-site. This methodology does not necessarily include one-time events that generate high traffic missed by our sampling, which we'll make note of whenever possible. Headcounts do not factor in returning visitors, so assume that the total number of unique Residents are likely to be significantly less than the estimated total visits.
