Whatever you think of their politics, the importance of the Yearly Kos political convention on the coming US Presidential election is undeniable-- as is their mastery of Net-driven grassroots activism. Last week, they devoted substantial resources to creating an SL-based component to YearlyKos, and Rik Riel was on the scene, attending an in-world video simulcast of the Democratic candidate debate, and interviewing the organizers of the metaverse component. "I hope this leads to more use of progressive organizers, campaigns and not-for-profits setting up shop in-world and building on what we've done here," Drew Frobozz told Rik.
Recently I speculated (Governor Warner notwithstanding) that it was probably too early in Second Life's evolution to see in-world appearances by the frontrunners in 2008's Presidential election. Reading Rik's interview, now I'm not so sure; extending the YouTube debate into immersive 3D, we may very well see an avatar-based Presidential debate in Second Life.
I'm surprised to see no updates on the Ginko crisis here. I was looking forward to reading up on it.

RL blogger Jesus General is in world, and was a major participant in the YKSL. Some of his comments on his blog ( http://patriotboy.blogspot.com ) are clearly SL influenced.
