Rik Riel's weekly round-up of upcoming SL events...
Residents meeting at the Non-Profit Commons
With the record-breaking $115K raised by the SL Relay for Life charity, my prediction that 2007 was going to be a big year for non-profit activity in Second Life has so far proven true. More proof is next week's public launch of a sim dedicated exclusively to providing free office space for non-profits, courtesy of Ms. Anshe Chung.
On Tuesday, August 14, from 5:30-7PM, there will be a celebration of the official opening of the Non-profit Commons sim. The Non-profit Commons houses the virtual headquarters of 32 non-profit organizations, covering a range of issues from hunger relief to youth empowerment, refugee assistance and cystic fibrosis research. (Full Disclosure: I represent one of the groups there, the swing dance community site Yehoodi.com.) The opening event will feature welcome addresses by Anshe Chung, Jeska Linden, and several non-profit representatives, plus a swing dance party DJed by yours truly. All at the Plush Non-Profit Commons (teleport SLURL.)
Also Coming Up This Week: A book signing by noted graphic novelist (and Second Life fan) Warren Ellis, raving for a cause, seeking the next Rocky Balboa, doing business in virtuality, two new Victorian sims, and slammin' poetry. All that and a bushel of sculpties on your way this week....
