Finally, a useful application of the beleaguered pop star: social commentary on the homeless problem in France. This SL machinima recently hit Le Post, the public-driven news section of Le Monde, and it's the creation of Christophe Hugo, famed for converting Second Life avatars into credible caricatures of real life celebrities. (Hugo was last seen in New World Notes as Nicolas Sarkozy, celebrating his ascendancy to the French Presidency by firing a bazooka and taking a hot nurse for a whirl in his Blackhawk chopper.)
The video is all in French, but Hugo translates for the Gallic impaired. "[It's] about a recent scandal in France," he tells me. "A few mayors had sprayed a bad-smelling product called 'Malodore' to dissuade homeless people from camping near their cities' grocery stores.
"The video suggests that hiring Britney to sing in a bikini near the stores might be as efficient but," he adds with a grin, "as cruel. A translation of the video's title would be: 'At last, an alternative to Malodore. However, the new method is as cruel as the repellent recently used in Argenteuil [one of the French cities using the Malodore product.]"
More of Hugo's topical, painfully accurate caricatures on his Le Post site here.
