Rik Riel's weekly round-up of upcoming SL events...
Water -- whether virtual or real -- has a powerful spiritual connection for many people. Today at 6:30PM SLT, the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Second Life invites all interested avatars to a community Water Ceremony. In it, each participant brings water from someplace that is special to them, and explains why to the whole congregation. The water is poured into a communal vessel to symbolize the coming together of the community. "It's really a way for us to reconnect after not seeing each other for the summer," SL Unitarian member Etaoin Barcelona explained.
Etaoin described to me the in-world ceremony, which involves a scripted pitcher that when touched starts pouring water into the pond in the center of the church. Each avatar in turn is invited to pour water from the pitcher and describe where their water comes from, whether from SL or the real world. "Someone brought water from Baghdad to my church this past Sunday," Etaoin continued. "After so many years, there is water from everywhere... even from the Woodstock '99 concert!"
Visitors and observers are welcome to bring their own water to the Unitarian Universalist Church today at 6:30PM at Lovelace (49, 48).
Also coming up this week: Virtual Gitmo, British indie music, a world famous orchestra goes metaversal, spooky story-telling, a celebration of cancer survivors, a ginormous jewelry expo, a benefit to fight child abuse, damaged DNA, and Viva Mexico!
