UPDATE 2, October 1st: I'm going to report survey results after October 2nd at 8am SLT, so you have until then to make your opinion part of that.
UPDATE, 6:42pm: Once again, this poll is FOR EU RESIDENTS ONLY. If you're not European but you want to follow the tally (which is displayed only after clicking a choice), please choose Other.
Starting now, Residents based in the EU will have to pay a Value Added Tax on virtual land purchases, land use fees, and other SL activities. Nothing about this move has been mentioned on the official Linden blog, which is strange, because it seems to be roiling the community of EU Residents who comprise some 40% of the active user base. Instead, I recommend Gwyneth Llewelyn's calm and measured explanation of the changes at SLOG. And after you've read that, dear EU readers, come back and take this poll, and please discuss further in Comments. Survey runs until next Friday!
Strange that only EU residents can vote. As for EU designers, shop keepers, ... without a VAT number (and those for who the costs, be it financial or time wise of getting a VAT number does not way up the tax they would safe) will 'implement' the cost of the VAT in the prices of their virtual goods, thus SL life would get more expensive for all of us?

That's very a good point, but I think it's best to first survey the direct impact among those, well, directly impacted. Maybe a follow-up along your lines is in order.
