- A very significant demographic shift worth re-emphasizing: among active Second Life Residents by country, Brazilians and Japanese now rank 2nd and 3rd, respectively. To this, reader Dirk Singer makes a very good point: "Brazil has 6 million broadband connections, and the US 54 million. If
SL had the same penetration in the US as Brazil, then the number of
Americans regularly logging in would be over four million, as opposed
to 150k!"
Another point: For the longest time, owing to former US dominance, English has been Second Life's default language, even among non-British European Residents, who are generally well-versed in it as a secondary tongue. What will happen to SL's community when the overall culture becomes trilingual?
- Related to that, Iris concludes her glorious overview of Japanese Resident-made fashion, much of it previously unappreciated by the English-dominant grid, and inspires this roughly translated-but-grateful feedback from one designer: "We are different in both the words and the culture... You gave big chance and hope to us."
