This is another cool sounding SL-to-real world art project looking for collaborators: create a mythical object like Excalibur in Second Life, which will then be recreated in physical form-- and then displayed in an actual gallery in Boston. So objects which never existed go from the conceptual to the virtual to the material. (Ontological objet d'art?) The two artists behind this project (who are working with Turbulence, a great arts non-profit with a gallery site in SL) are looking to commission builders to help realize it. Some early samples pictured above, and full details for getting involved after the break.
Disclosure: I was a sponsored speaker at a recent Boston event co-sponsored by Turbulence, also a co-sponsor of Ars Virtua.
Second Life Builders Needed
Scott Kildall and Victoria Scott are working on a project called "No Matter" which is one of five the Mixed Realities Turbulence commissioned projects that will be on display in both a virtual gallery (Ars Virtua) and a real life gallery (Huret & Spector Gallery in Boston).
We are commissioning a variety of builders to create Imaginary Objects in Second Life. These are objects that have never existed as real objects. These include the mythical, fictional, metaphysical and more such as Excaliber, The Ghost in the Machine, Kryptonite and a Time Machine.
From the Second Life models, we will extract the objects and make them into 3D foldable paper models which will be assembled in a workshop and displayed in the RL gallery.
We are looking for builder-artists to help work with us in making the Second Life models. They will be paid in Linden Dollars for their work. They will be featured on the final website as well.
Please contact Scott Kildall at [email protected] or IM his avatar: Great Escape.
More details on the project are at nomatter.org.
