Rik Riel's weekly round-up of upcoming SL events...
If you are itching to be the next Anshe Chung or Aimee Weber, you should plan on attending the Virtual Business Services & Products Expo on Friday October 19 from 8AM-8PM PST at the Depo Business Hub (direct teleport at this link.) The theme of this year's expo is "Beyond Storefronts: Harnessing the Business Potential of Virtual Worlds." Expo attendees can participate in talks and presentations, meet with developers, scripters, animators, and other business specialists, as they explore the possibilities for their businesses in the metaverse.
There are a number of interesting events planned as part of the expo, including a panel on intellectual property issues in virtual worlds at 9AM, noted SL developer Ham Rambler talking about the building of the SL Dublin sim at 11AM, and a discussion on market research in virtual worlds at 1PM.
Also coming up this week: The other Jules Verne classic, walking for a cure, a Japanese guitarist, a new hang-out for gay and lesbian avatars, three "weird" artists, philosophical fire-dancing, a French eyewear convention, and a real world appliance maker gives out cash for useful SL devices. All those events and more are only a short teleport away...

SUBMITTING EVENTS FOR COVERAGE IN NWN
New World Notes often highlights events for the upcoming week. If you'd like an event to be considered, send the description and event link to Rik Riel via IM or e-mail him at [email protected].
Main guidelines:
- Events for the coming week must be received by Monday Noon SLT.
- Events posted in SL's official listing board greatly preferred.
- Events with artistic, cultural, scientific, political, creative, and/or educational value preferred.
- Events sponsored or promoted by real world corporations are usually not appropriate to NWN Events. Instead, consider advertising your event on New World Notes.
- Bonus consideration given to game-related or machinima events, and for events with "I've never seen that in SL before" value.
