When the work of SL-based artist Arahan Claveau was last featured here, it was a powerful interactive installation on addiction and death. His latest work, a series of heavily post-rendered screenshots taken throughout Second Life, is decidedly more idyllic. "I want the pictures to tell the story and because of that it is open to interpretation, which I want to encourage," Claveau tells me, but offers a rough synopsis:
"A tale of a homeless boy who embarks on an odyssey to find a better life. During the journey he encounters a series of magical places, characters and creatures that become increasingly fantastical as the story progresses, inevitably pushing him onward towards his ultimate destiny."
Arahan compiled these images into a Flash file that you can see here, making this an extended tableau and a fragile fairy tale for the metaverse. To submit your own Tableau, read on.
Submitting to New World Tableau:
New World Tableau is an ongoing album featuring Residents who've turned SL screenshots into a new art form, vividly conveying emotions, stories, and entire cultures in a single image.
- If you come across a picture or image stream that deserves a place
here, please IM (Hamlet Au) or e-mail ([email protected]) me the link.
- Feel free to describe what the image says to you, or if you're the creator, what inspired you to make it.
- Whenever possible, name the
Residents pictured, and include a SLURL to the location (when appropriate.)
- Moderately Photoshopped
images are OK, just mention if this is the case, and what effects were added. (On rare occasions when the post-production adds a special element, heavily Photoshopped images are also appropriate.)
-
If you submit an image to NWT, it's assumed I have permission to run
it, either as the owner, or because it's been appropriately CC
licensed. The original creator retains all their rights to it, in any
case.
Isn't it amazing how expansive Arahan's creative talent is? I am always amazed and intrigued. This lovely and I look forward to the journey continuing. Thank You, Hamlet, for providing another venue for such work to be shared.

Thank you Hamlet once again for showcasing my work. The New World Tableau is a great idea, there's a lot of very talented photographers out there trying to do something a little different. Look forward to seeing who else you feature here.
Hey thanks a lot DDD, very kind of you to say so :D Part 2 will most likely be finished early in 2008.
Glad you enjoyed it Emily.
