Rik Riel's weekly round-up of upcoming SL events...
When discussing the increasing internationalization of Second Life, the difficult subject of the dearth of African residents often gets raised. This Saturday at 1PM Sophrosyne's Salon will feature a talk with Alanagh Recreant, co-director of the South Africa-based non-profit Uthango and founder of SL Africa, to
discuss how to draw Africans into virtual worlds, virtual outreach and charity to African communities, and bringing African culture into SL. The salon will take place at Extropia Core (click here to teleport.)
Alanagh's first effort involves, of all things, bicycles. Earlier this month, Uthango launched a "(e)bizikile" fundraiser selling virtual African bicycles for L$250 (about one US dollar) to fund a
Capetown "Opportunity Centre." The center will assist job seekers,
entrepreneurs and community members in finding their way out of poverty. You can get your own African bike at Sunset Commerce (click here to teleport). “The [e]bizikile fundraising event is meant to bring attention to how
bicycles fit into the economy in African cities and rural towns,” explained Alanagh.
Also Coming Up This Week: teeny weeny tiny prim magic, a Swedish punk film, Ango-French electro-rock, gigantic gastropod mollusks on the speedway, auditions for the Bard's greatest drama, and a panel on succeeding as an SL artist. Oh and for those who celebrate the holiday, Happy Thanksgiving! All that, and more after the jump...

Main guidelines:
- Events for the coming week must be received by Monday Noon SLT.
- Events posted in SL's official listing board greatly preferred.
- Events with artistic, cultural, scientific, political, creative, and/or educational value preferred.

Dear Partner,
As a volunteer for Second Life Virtual Africa, I want to express for all of us how much it means to have your participation.
Your help in promoting this event, the [e]bizikile bikeathon, is instrumental in sharing the important news about the work going on in Virtual Africa, as it partners with Real Life sponsors.
The educational and real life efforts to give the people of Africa a voice heard round the world have a valid place on the world stage.
Once again, thank you for your help.
Sincerely, VIP volunteer 4 Virtual Africa, Schizm Neutra
