Rik Riel's weekly round-up of upcoming SL events...
Today is one of my favorite holidays, El Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead), an ancient Mexican tradition celebrating the lives of loved ones who have passed through food, music and gift-giving. The San Diego-themed sim Diegoland is hosting several Day of the Dead activities today that you should check out. From 3PM, you can enjoy latin and salsa music at Cafe Diego (click here to teleport). Then at 6PM, Mexican scholar Ferugina Luna will give a talk in the Cafe on the history of this Mexican holiday. The festivities continue at Club Wicked (click here to teleport) where the Midnight Auer Jazz Quartet will perform live, streaming from a real gig in San Diego at 7PM. Jean Munro follows with classic and new jazz from 8PM.
Meanwhile, Koinonia sim is sponsoring a $L2000 Dia De Los Muertos Display Contest, with a party announcing the winners from 6-8PM today at Xenia (click to teleport).
Also Coming Up This Week: an aquatic environmental foundation takes the plunge into SL, neko-girls rock out, celebrating a famous Swedish scientist, a talk on grrl power in virtual worlds, a fundraiser for African AIDS relief, and the extreme sport of simboarding. All that, many more avatar adventures await you after the jump...

SUBMITTING EVENTS FOR COVERAGE IN NWN
New World Notes often highlights events for the upcoming week. If you'd like an event to be considered, send the description and event link to Rik Riel via IM or e-mail him at [email protected].
Main guidelines:
- Events for the coming week must be received by Monday Noon SLT.
- Events posted in SL's official listing board greatly preferred.
- Events with artistic, cultural, scientific, political, creative, and/or educational value preferred.
- Events sponsored or promoted by real world corporations are usually not appropriate to NWN Events. Instead, consider advertising your event on New World Notes.
- Bonus consideration given to game-related or machinima events, and for events with "I've never seen that in SL before" value.
