Saving RJ: Charity Ball Fundraiser Tonight to Help Pay Medical Fees for Resident's Nephew

Tonight at 5pm SLT, there's going to be a party for a special purpose: raising funds to help the real life nephew of T180Kay Smalls.  Direct teleport to the party site at Misiomania at this link.  The young boy recently sustained a life-threatening head injury that requires an immediate (and costly) operation, and Ms. Small's family is struggling to raise funds for the co-payment.  Since learning of this, her friend Barbie Starr has created donation kiosks and an SL group, RJs Angels, and will convert L$ she receives from those and the ball to US$ that will be sent directly to the hospital, earmarked for the boy.  She's also assembled real world donation info for those who'd like to donate directly, or who'd like to confirm the situation with the hospital. 8 year old Ronnie Jimenez Jr., nephew of our friend T180Kay Smalls, is in need of your help. He has suffered a tragically serious head injury due to an unfortunate accident while playing outside with his friends. He is currently in the hospital awaiting surgery. Unfortunately, the family is having trouble coming up with the $3000.00 (USD) co-payment. This is a matter of life and death and he needs this surgery. The families Insurance only covers 80% of the bills and the family is responsible to pay for the aftercare as well which will be costly. As with any head injury there may be irreparable brain damage, and he may have extensive aftercare. A head injury of this severity could cause irreversible damage or lead to death.

This is a plea for help in saving a child's life. The parents need help funding this operation as soon as possible!

In order to meet their goal by that time we will be throwing a Charity Ball at 5:00 pm SL time on Friday the 16th of November, 2007. Please come to this benefit and help us raise the funds to help this little boy get the surgery that he so desperately needs.

I think it's wonderful that you provided so much information about how to help and how to verify the need. I'm at work an unable to go in-world to make a donation, but PayPal was a good option for me so I donated in that way.

I want to thank everyone for all your help and Hamlet too for announcing this. We really did meet our goals to help with the co-pay. I will be updating the information on the website this weekend after I find out about the surgery!

I will have some pictures from the benefit event that went over very well so please keep an eye on the website! We are now going to need funds for some aftercare expenses and we are all praying that ronnie will get through the surgery ok. Surgery is scheduled for 6pm Sat, Nov 17th.
