On his blog Rikomatic, NWN Events ringmaster Rik Riel has two important mixed reality-ish posts worth a special look, especially if you're a Mac fan or work in the non-profit sector (or both.) He checks the specs of the latest Jobs-ian fetish item, the MacBook Air, and wonders, But will Air run Second Life? Short answer: probably not. More recently, he's published the in-depth paper "Best Practices for Non-profits in Second Life", a very solid effort and an ideal reference guide for people working in that sector-- and valuable, I suspect, for government and for-profit groups with an SL presence, too.
