Rik Riel's weekly round-up of upcoming SL events...
When I first read the announcement for a "Sloodle Moot," I assumed it was some kind of Dr. Seuss character. Actually, the Sloodle Moot is a 24-hour series of discussions, demos and activities surrounding education in virtual environments. Happening from January 18 at 4PM PST to January 19 at 4PM, the Moot is based around the Sloodle project, an effort to connect the open-source e-learning program Moodle with Second Life. Teleport over to VirtuaAlba (direct teleport link) and find out about the Sloodle project and what it can do for you as a teacher, student or educational techie.
The Moot is particularly relevant for me, since I will be focusing full-time on education using virtual worlds as the newly hired Second Life Producer for the non-profit Global Kids. There are a number of educational events of note over the next few days, including a discussion on helping teens transition from the Teen SL to the Main Grid, a workshop for educators on griefing, and a prep class for a standard college entrance exam.
Also Coming Up This Week: a live simulcast concert from the UK in virtual Dublin, learn to roll your own HUD, progressive improvisation rock, ice hockey SL-style, crinolines and bussles on the catwalk, chatty robots, seek the Buddha en Italiano, and when in Rome, party like the Romans. All that and more, after the jump...

Main guidelines:
- Events for the coming week must be received by Monday Noon SLT.
- Events posted in SL's official listing board greatly preferred.
- Events with artistic, cultural, scientific, political, creative, and/or educational value preferred.
