Located in the heart of San Francisco's tragically hip Mission District, the Make Out Room has been a bar crawl staple since, well, at least since I moved to the city in the early 90s. It's also the home to Writers With Drinks, so what better place to read about, you know, making out in Second Life? When it came my turn to read from The Making of Second Life, I told the audience festooned with piercings and multi-color hair about poseballs, the sex empire of Phil Murdock and Snow Hare, and the real relationship that emerged from it; they seemed receptive, even if most of them seemed but vaguely aware of Second Life before I started reading. The place was absolutely packed, with people getting turned away at the door. (I credit that largely to genius author Aimee Bender being on the top of the bill, and the event's lovely and talented hostess Charlie Anders, who regaled the audience with surreal and kinky science fiction interludes. Read more of Charlie's brilliant SF insights at Io9.com.)
Thanks to everyone who came! I'm fairly sure I spotted a few SLers in the audience, and as I found out later, several wound up stuck outside. (The Make Out sim was way past 80.) Some impromptu photo after the break.
